Call for Fall 2015 City Studies teaching artists

Call for Fall 2015 _City Studies_ teaching artists

CUP is seeking two teaching artists to each design and implement a 10-hour, in-class City Studies project in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

These projects will be part of two English Language Arts classes and each will investigate a topic in the Bushwick community. The classes will meet in late October or November 2015.

CUP’s intensive project-based curricula enable high school students to explore fundamental questions about how the city works through collaborative research and design. To find answers, students go beyond standard classroom learning and engage in research, conduct site visits, and interview decision-makers and stakeholders. Students then collaborate with the teaching artist to produce innovative, engaging print or digital tools. These projects are taken up by neighborhood organizations and advocacy groups to educate others about the issue.

CUP teaching artists will work with CUP and the Academy of Urban Planning staff to develop course ideas, schedules, and lesson plans. Teaching artists are responsible for teaching research skills, managing site visits and interviews, helping create the final product, and assisting with the public launch event.

Each position pays a stipend of $2,000. There is a separate budget for materials and other project costs.

DEADLINE EXTENDED! Applications are now due by email on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 5 pm.

Instructions for all teaching artist applicants:

Please submit a cover letter, a resume, contact information for two references, and a work sample with up to five images of what you consider to be your strongest visual work (not your students’ work). Send materials via email to [email protected].

Please send all material as a single PDF not to exceed 3 MB. For audio or video work samples, please provide a link. Please use “[YourLastName_YourFirstName] Fall 2015 Teaching Artist” as your email subject line.

No calls please.

Please address the following in your cover letter:

Why are you interested in this position?

What Bushwick-related topic might you be interested in investigating?

What art, design, and digital media are you comfortable working in?

What experience do you have working with high school students, and why do you want to work with them?

CUP is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages people of color, women, LGBTQ, and disabled candidates to apply.
