The Bronx & Big Data

The Bronx & Big Data

CUP and Teaching Artist Christopher Lopez are collaborating with classroom teacher Mr. Mark Leffler and his 12th grade computer science students at International Community High School (ICHS) in the Bronx to explore the issue of Big Data and its use by the NYPD.

What is Big Data? What are algorithms? How do they show up in our everyday life? How does the NYPD use Big Data and algorithms to inform policing around NYC? How does this impact our communities?

To explore these questions, students are interviewing experts working on the issue, surveying members of their community, and creating art to break down Big Data and its big implications for our city.
