Call for a teaching artist for a City Studies class | Topic: Immigration | Brooklyn | AUP

We’re seeking a teaching artist to design and implement a 10-hour in class project for high school students about immigration at the Academy of Urban Planning in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

This project will be part of a mixed grade English as a Second Language class, and will investigate issues faced by recent immigrants. The group will collaboratively create a newcomer’s handbook demystifying complex processes relevant to recent immigrants (How do you open a bank account? How do you get a driver’s license?). The class meets in October during the school day.

CUP’s project-based curricula enable students to explore fundamental questions about how the city works through collaborative research and design. CUP teaching artists/designers work with CUP staff and project partners to develop course ideas, schedules, lesson plans, and to document the project. Teaching artists produce a designed final product in collaboration with the students and CUP. The teaching artist will be paid $1750, and there is a separate budget for materials and other project costs.

We’re seeking a teaching artist to design and implement a 10-hour project for high school students at the Academy of Urban Planning in Bushwick, Brooklyn on school lunches.

This project will be part of a 10th grade film class, and will investigate decision-making around school food. Who determines the lunches? Where does the budget come from? What kinds of decisions are made outside of the school? The teaching artist would develop a project to sharpen students’ interview and research skills, and develop a visual argument. The class meets in October during the school day.

We’re seeking a teaching artist to design and implement a 10-session project for high school students at the Urban Assembly School for Criminal Justice in Borough Park. CUP’s project-based curricula enable students to explore fundamental questions about how the city works, through collaborative research and design.

This project will be part of an English or Government class and will investigate a neighborhood issue to be determined by CUP and the teaching artist, in collaboration with the school. The project will be developed in close collaboration with CUP staff. The class takes place in October and early November during the school day. The teaching artist will be paid $1750, and there is a separate budget for materials and other project costs.
