AHRC-NYC

AHRC NYC is a family governed organization committed to finding ways for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities(I/DD) to build full lives as defined by each person and supported by dedicated families, staff and community partners. To help people with I/DD understand their options for living independently in New York State, CUP worked with AHRC-NYC to create What Does It Mean To Live In My Own Place?, an illustrated guide. ALIGN

ALIGN is a longstanding alliance of labor and community organizations united for a just and sustainable New York. ALIGN works at the intersection of economy, environment, and equity to make change and build movement. CUP collaborated with ALIGN and Transform Don’t Trash NYC to create Don’t Trash NYC to shed light on the dirty secrets behind NYC’s commercial waste. This short animation follows a discarded milk jug on its journey from trashcan to landfill, exposing the impacts the current commercial waste system has on workers, community members, and the environment. https://alignny.org/

Adhikaar

Adhikaar, meaning rights in Nepali, is a nonprofit organization working in Nepali-speaking communities to promote human rights and social justice for all. Adhikaar provides a safe space for diverse Nepali-speaking new immigrant communities to gather, develop life skills and leadership, and be a voice for social justice.

Anti-Violence Project

The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected communities and allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education, and supports survivors through counseling and advocacy. 

Asian Americans For Equality

Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Asian Americans and all of those who are in need.  Founded in 1974 to advocate for equal rights, AAFE has transformed in the past four decades to become one of New York’s preeminent housing, social service and community development organizations.   AAFE is committed to preserving affordable housing throughout New York and to providing new opportunities for the city’s diverse immigrant communities. AAFE provides education, financial assistance and training to empower people, small businesses and neighborhoods. Its research, advocacy and grassroots organizing initiatives help to shape government policy and to effect positive change.    At its heart, AAFE embodies the hopes and dreams of New York’s many vibrant immigrant communities, and helps turn those dreams into reality. AAFE contributed to the development of What is Affordable Housing?

Association For Neighborhood and Housing Development

Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development (ANHD) is a 501c3 membership organization founded in 1974, comprised of 98 nonprofit neighborhood housing groups serving low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. Over the past decade alone, ANHD’s training, policy research, advocacy, strategic communications, and leadership development for grassroots groups and residents has leveraged over $1.3 billion for affordable housing, rescued over 30,000 apartments and 160 buildings for low-income residents, and created break through policies for community development. ANHD is collaborating with CUP on an MPP about the Responsible Banking Act and contributed to the development of the Affordable Housing Toolkit and Zoning Toolkit.

Bellevue Program for Survivors of Tortur

The Bellevue Program for Survivors of Torture in New York City, New York, is affiliated with Bellevue Hospital Center and New York University School of Medicine. Their primary focus is to identify, assess, and treat survivors of torture. PSOT also offers training to physicians, psychologists, lawyers, resettlement workers, students and community members across the country on issues related to torture and torture treatment. CUP teamed up with The Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture (PSOT) to create What is asylum?, a trilingual fold-out poster in English, Spanish, and French. The illustrated poster guides asylum seekers — many of whom have limited English and literacy skills — step-by-step through the difficult process of receiving asylum, and provides information about other resources they can turn to for assistance. https://www.survivorsoftorture.org/

Black Women’s Blueprint

Black Women’s Blueprint, Inc. is a civil and human rights organization of women and men. Our purpose is to take action to secure social, political and economic equality in American society now. We work to develop a culture where women of African descent are fully empowered and where gender, race and other disparities are erased. We engage in progressive research, historical documentation, support movement building and organize on social justice issues steeped in the struggles of Black women within their communities and within dominant culture. CUP teamed up with Black Women’s Blueprint to create It’s Not Just Personal. Created for and with students of color and LGBTQ students, the brightly illustrated guide is designed to fill a gap in engaging and culturally relevant information for student survivors of sexual violence and their allies. https://www.blackwomensblueprint.org/

The Brennan Center for Justice

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve our systems of democracy and justice. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Center’s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from racial justice in criminal law to Constitutional protection in the fight against terrorism. A singular institution — part think tank, part public interest law firm, part advocacy group, part communications hub — the Brennan Center seeks meaningful, measurable change in the systems by which our nation is governed.

Brooklyn Defender Services

Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) is one of the largest public defense providers in the United States. BDS provides innovative, multi-disciplinary, and client-centered criminal, family, and immigration defense, civil legal services, social work support and advocacy, for tens of thousands of clients in Brooklyn every year. CUP teamed up with public defenders from Brooklyn Defender Services to create What You Need to Know About ACS and What Do Incarcerated Parents Need to Know About ACS?

Both guides break down the complex and difficult to navigate ACS investigation process, so parents know what’s coming and what they can do to make sure they get the best results for their family. http://bds.org/

Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A

Through innovative neighborhood-based advocacy, Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A assists individuals, families, organizations, and coalitions in sustaining vibrant, healthy communities primarily in Brooklyn and throughout New York City. We embrace the meaningful role that lawyers have in combating poverty. We firmly believe that legal services organizations are accountable to low-income communities and are charged with the responsibility of understanding their needs and collaborating with them, through an array of advocacy methods, to address the problems they confront. Together with the voices of our communities, we advance social and economic justice.

develops research, tools, training materials and opportunities for partnership that bolster nonprofit organizations’ ability to support the voice and power of the people they serve.

CAAAV

Founded by Asian women as the Committee Against Anti-Asian Violence in 1986, CAAAV is one of the first pan-Asian grassroots organizations in the U.S. to educate and provide advocacy on behalf of victims of hate crimes. CAAAV Organizing Asian Communities works to build grassroots community leadership and power across diverse low-income Asian immigrant and refugee communities in New York City to fight for institutional change towards racial, gender and economic justice. CAAAV is currently working with CUP on an Issue of Making Policy Public that focuses on rent regulation rights In New York’s Chinatown. 

Center for Family Life

Center for Family Life, a program of SCO Family of Services, is a neighborhood-based family and social services organization with deep roots in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Our mission is to promote positive outcomes for children, adults and families in Sunset Park through the provision of a comprehensive range of neighborhood-based family and social services. We partner with the community to provide access to resources and opportunities for personal growth and the development of interpersonal relationships that sustain and nurture families, support youth to develop into confident, capable adults and enrich the quality of life for neighborhood residents.

CUP worked with the Center for Family Life to create Plan for Your Child’s Future!, an illustrated workshop tool. This two-part tool, consisting of a poster and handout, explains the steps a parent can take to make a plan for their children in case they’re detained and deported.
